The Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya houses the finest collection of Catalan Romanesque mural paintings in the world.

This collection, together with the splendour of Gothic art, provides a fascinating look at medieval art.

Besides this, there are works of art from the period of Modernism, with some of the most emblematic and significant pieces by Casas, Rusiñol or Gaudí. The works of great European Renaissance and Baroque painters complete the collection.

The building that the Museu Nacional is housed in was built for the 1929 Barcelona International Exhibition. Inside, we find the Oval Hall, measuring over 2,000 square metres, the Dome Hall and the Òleum Restaurant, set in the old Throne Room, which along with the museum’s rooftop viewpoints offers one of the best panoramic views of Barcelona.

The Catalan National Art Museum has different catering services: The Museum Cafè, the Òleum Restaurant, the Balcony-Terraces on the roofs of the building, as well as the Gift Shop and the Art History Library.
